When you are 30 Weeks Pregnant more Changes Happen

At 30 weeks pregnant you might find an increase of fatigue, overheating, clumsiness, fetal hiccups, sciatica pain, and RLS restless leg syndrome. Also at 30 weeks pregnant your provider may also want to have you take a glucose screening test. You would be drinking a sweet glucose drink one hour prior to having blood work drawn to test to see if your body’s producing enough insulin to offset the extra glucose in your body. Depending on those results you may follow up with a glucose tolerance test which after fasting you would drink a higher concentrated glucose drink. This 3 hour test is used to diagnose
gestational diabetes.

Premature labor may also be a concern at 30 weeks pregnant. Some causes for premature labor are; smoking, alcohol use, drug abuse, inadequate weight gain, poor nutrition, standing for long periods of time, heavy physical labor, sexual intercourse, infection, imbalanced hormones, incompetent cervix, placenta previa, chronic maternal, illness, emotional stress, fetal abnormalities, or a history of premature deliveries. Low birth weight is common in premature babies. Approximately 8 out 100 newborn babies have low birth weight which would be 5 pounds 8 ounces. 1 out of 100 babies have a very low birth weight of 3 pounds 5 ounces. If you feel at 30 weeks pregnant that there may be a possibility of having a baby with a low birth weight bring this concern to you providers attention. Reassurances can be found with either an exam or an ultrasound that you growing and developing at a normal pace. By the end of your seventh month you baby should weight about 3 pounds and be about 16 inches long. You now have 10 weeks left in your pregnancy and it is important that you prepare yourself for the weeks to come, and take care of yourself.
