Blood clots form when a blood vessel in our body is damaged or ruptured due to some kind of injury. After a few days, the blood vessel heals naturally and the blood clot dissolves. A blood clot or thrombus generally begins in your leg. In case it breaks free and journeys to another part of the body such as the pelvis, lungs or the smaller blood vessels, it may result in being potentially fatal.

The Possible Symptoms Of Blood Clots

If a person has Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and has a clot in the veins of the leg or pelvis, then the person will be suffering from a number of symptoms, like prominent veins, tenderness, discoloration, pain or swelling in the muscles of the calf or the legs.

When one gets blood clot in the lungs (i.e., is affected by pulmonary embolus), it goes on to show symptoms like shortness of breath, pain in the chest and blood in cough.

Symptoms of blood clots also include wheezing and great difficulty in breathing, arrhythmia, dizziness, faintness, pain in the shoulders, pain in the upper abdomen, and even pain in the back. Being fatal in nature, symptoms of blood clots could also lead to something very fatal, like a heart attack, stroke and may also cause blindness.

The aforesaid symptoms are very serious and should not be ignored at any cost. If you experience any of these symptoms, go and consult your doctor at once.

Who Are Prone To Blood Clots?

Symptoms of blood clots are common with the people who are suffering from any form of cancer. They stand a high risk of having blood clots. Therefore, cancer patients are advised to take a break (when traveling far distances), for walking and getting their flow of blood in motion again.

People who have a decreased mobility also are prone to showing symptoms of blood clots. The list of people prone to blood clots also includes women taking birth control pills, people who have suffered fractures, ones who suffer from obesity, those undergoing chemotherapy, ones who have a history of DVT, those with arteriosclerosis, smokers and elderly people.
