Wrist Blood Pressure

The aneroid blood pressure monitors are used to measure blood pressure. Such monitors are usually found in all physicians’ chambers; however, because of their convenience, they can also be used by anyone. You can use aneroid blood pressure monitors to monitoring your blood pressure level on your own. These blood pressure monitors have a gauge dial (which is usually attached to a cuff) and an in-built stethoscope.

How To Use The Aneroid Blood Pressure Monitor?

First, you must position the earpieces of the stethoscope directly inside your ears. Then place the stethoscope disk in the folded part of your elbow. You should put the cuff on your left arm in such a way that its height matches well with the height and position of your heart. Next, start squeezing the rubber bulb to inflate the cuff. Carry on with inflating the cuff till you have crossed the boundaries of systolic reading. It is at this particular point that the arteries are so constricted that the normal flow of blood is momentarily stopped.

Now, let the cuff deflate slowly; all the while, have the earpieces plugged in your ears. As the outward pressure reduces with the deflating of the cuff, blood gushes into the arteries with a 'swoosh' sound. Take this reading – this is your systolic pressure.

Let the deflation continue and listen carefully. A time comes when you can no longer hear the heart beat. Take a note of this reading in the dial gauge. This is what you call diastolic pressure.

The systolic and the diastolic pressure readings together give your blood pressure level.

However, it is important for you to have a proper understanding of the working of the aneroid blood pressure. At times, you find it difficult to press the rubber bulb and once the bulb is damaged, it would no longer give you accurate readings.
