The lifestyle changes must include a strict program with a prescribed diet as well as exercise. Changing some of your dietary habits could be quite effective in high blood pressure control. Here is a dietary regime for you to follow:

  • It is essential to eliminate saturated fats from your diet. Instead, you can use virgin olive oil.
  • Reduce eating white/refined flour products and increase more whole grains in your diet
  • Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. Especially orange, melons, mushrooms, broccoli, carrots can help in high blood pressure control.
  • It would be better to have oily fish like salmon into your diet as they contain omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for heart and cardiovascular system.
  • The most important change in your diet would be reducing the salt intake. Use a salt substitute at home. More so, you must avoid fast foods and processed foods as they contain high levels of sodium.

Exercises

Try out aerobic exercises regularly, as this will help the heart to pump blood throughout the body. Such exercises would also reduce the levels of stress hormones in the body causing the arteries to relax. Start with brisk walking or jogging for about 30 minutes for five days a week. Further exercise would also reduce your weight to normal limits.

Avoid Smoking And Alcohol

You must quit habits such as smoking or consuming alcohol. This would not only help in your blood pressure control, it will also keep you healthy.

Herbal Control

Several herbs can be quite effective in high blood pressure control such as garlic, cinnamon, ginger, kelp, skullcap, hawthorn, nutmeg, cardamom, burdock and valerian. Most of these are easily available in the grocery stores or pharmacies. They can play an effective role in lowering blood pressure. These are reliable alternatives to synthetic drugs.
