Viagra Side Effects

Before the late 1990s, there were no oral medication that could help with erectile dysfunction; the inability to accomplish or maintain a satisfactory erection for sexual activity. The drugs that were on the market previously required an injection into the penis or urethra.

Today, treatment for erectile dysfunction is much simpler now due to a class of drug medications called Viagra, Levitra and Cialis. All of these medications improve erectile function in the same fundamental manner; however the medications differ in how fast they take effect as well as how long the drug effects last.

How Does Viagra, Levitra and Cialis Work

Viagra, Levitra and Cialis works in the male body by preventing the breakdown of nitric oxide which is a chemical substance that encourages relaxation and the widening of the blood vessels that provides erectile tissue in the penis. The nitric oxide causes these vessels to enlarge and remain dilated. The increased blood flow in the penis creates erectile tissue to expand and constricts the veins that carry blood out of the penis, resulting in a full erection.

Viagra, Levitra and Cialis are all referred to as PDE-5 inhibitors. PDE-5 inhibitors do not involuntarily trigger erections. Sexual stimulation also is required to initiate the entire process. The medications facilitate a more complete reaction to the sexual stimulation.

Many clinical trials have revealed that PDE-5 inhibitors help with the improvement of erectile function despite the underlying causes. Viagra, Levitra and Cialis also enhance the number, the quality of erections and sexual experiences for men with erectile dysfunction who have problems with diabetes, arteriosclerosis, depression, spinal cord injury or the aftereffects of surgery from prostate cancer.
